HISTORY OF ELIM COMMUNITY CHURCH
Elim Assembly of God was established in 1982 under the auspices of the MANNED (Mission Advance Northern New England District) program of the Assemblies of God with the mission from the Lord to be an Oasis for a hurting and lost world. We changed our name to “Elim Community Church” in 2000 to better reflect our heart as a church in the communities that we live in.
Elim Community Church’s first Pastor was the Reverend Paul Duda. He served for three years as the Senior Pastor leaving in June of 1985. Reverend Duda is currently a Missionary to Ecuador. In August of 1985, the Reverend Earl Creps became Elim’s second Pastor. The third floor of the church building was completed in September 1986. Reverend Creps left Elim in August of 1992 after serving seven years as the Senior Pastor. Reverend Creps is currently teaching at the Assemblies of God Seminary in Springfield, Missouri. Elim’s third and current Pastor, the Reverend Gregory S. Vinson, held his first service December 22, 1992.
Elim’s involvement throughout the years has been very active in their attempt to leave an indelible fingerprint in the hearts of the people of Bath, Sagadahoc County, and the State of Maine: Bath Police Department (Chaplain); Maine Law Enforcement Chaplain Corps; Governor’s Commission for the Disabled; Aboutface; Bath Police Partnership; Youth Advocate Committee; Greater Bath Fellowship of Ministers; Sagadahoc County Community Justice Project; American Legion; Main Street Bath; Midcoast Evangelical Ministers Fellowship; Salvation Army (Board); Special Olympics; Let’s Talk Committee; Ethics Committee; School Community Liaison Council; Bath Meetinghouse and Skate Park; Heritage Days; Citizen Involvement Day; Safety Day; Pre-Commissioning Units and Supervisor of Shipbuilding (United States Navy); Battle of the Bands; Soup Kitchen; Food/Clothing Bank; Mayfair; An Old Fashioned Christmas in Bath; Troop 21 Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America and Rotary Club of America.
A Church in the Community, the Community in the Church!
We believe that this mission will be accomplished through the core values that represent the heart of Jesus Christ and Elim Community Church. Missions, giving, boldly loving the “unlovable”, reaching out to those that feel unreachable – all of these are at the core of our church community. We believe it is this heart that has allowed God to bless Elim Community Church with such tremendous opportunities for ministry. Also, as we have stepped forward in faith to fulfill our destiny, our focus has been to continuously cultivate a spirit of excellence and Jesus-style servanthood within the ministry training and classes that we offer.
These are exciting times for the church, and we believe God will use us to continue to launch even more opportunities to reach the world for Christ. At Elim Community Church, we strive to be relevant to our community by being an Oasis through practical, Biblical messages and authentic service to all people. Our goal is to love God and people with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength by being an Oasis for a hurting and lost world.
