Credit Measurements
The following guidelines have been established after conferring with various institutions of higher education concerning a valid conversion of conventional class lecture hours into required reading for credit in a traditional or non-traditional program of education.
Measurement of Courses
Elim three credit hour courses’ class lectures (3 credits hours per course) are 1 1/2 hours in length, and meet once a week for up to 12 weeks. Interns/Students can be assigned up to 3 hours of homework a week per course. Total coursework load, on top of classroom lecture, would be equivalent to 540 pages of reading and writing requirements, as well as a final exam.
Measurement of Life Experience Courses
These courses are planned learning experiences equivalent to the learning and preparation described above, as determined by duly qualified faculty responsible for evaluating learning outcomes for the award of unit credits. The Life Experience will be equivalent to 45 hours of class lecture. Total coursework load will include evaluation by Supervisor, and a reading or writing requirement.
Measurement of Weekend Intensive Seminar Courses
These three credit hour courses are offered as a seminar, and a total of 6 lecture hours on the course topic. Total coursework load, on top of classroom lecture, would be equivalent to 585 pages of reading and writing requirements.
Measurement of Independent Study Courses
A three credit hour course would require 675 pages of reading at the undergraduate level of study. This reading requirement must include a written project or a final exam.
Equivalency Standards of The American Federation of Christian Colleges and Schools
Three credit hours of study are equal to one 50 minute lecture, 3 times a week, for 15 weeks (37.5 total hours). 15 pages of reading equals, 1 class lecture [at the undergraduate level of study]. A 3 credit hour course would require 675 pages of reading at the undergraduate level of study if the course is an independent study or completed by correspondence. This reading requirement must include a written project or a final exam. The purpose of this requirement is to ensure that a intern receives a certain quantity of education which will lead to a quality education.
